The Future Movies Review of The Year 2005
We review the year in the cinema.
Welcome to the Future Movie Awards for 2005, where we've picked the best movies and performers of the year as well as some of our own personal favourites.
Best Film of 2005 - Sideways
Released early in the year but lingering long on the palette, the perfect blend of drama and comedy, Alexander Payne's Oscar winning screenplay and the peerless Paul Giamatti all combined to create a classic in Sideways. Sideways Review
Actor of 2005 - Bruno Ganz
The Swiss actor persuaded us to have sympathy for the devil with his astonishing turn as Adolf Hitler in Downfall.
Actress of 2005 - Rachel Weisz
Constantine. Wow. No wait, The Constant Gardener, that's the one. Weisz delivered her best performance yet in this moving and thought provoking thriller.
Foreign Film of 2005 - Downfall
Several days locked in a Berlin bunker with an insane Führer. Compelling and devastating. Downfall Review.
Event Film of 2005 - Batman Begins
The Bat is back and the knight has never been so dark. Whisper it, but it may be the best superhero film ever made. Batman Begins Review
British Film of 2005 - The Descent
The best British film of the year, the best horror of the millennium - Hollywood can only dream of making movies as good as this. The Descent Review
Worst Film of 2005 - Domino
Dear God no, what a mess. An almost literally unwatchable fiasco of edits, tricks and filters. Domino Review
Documentary of 2005 - Murderball
Clever, funny and provocative, Murderball has Best Documentary Oscar written all over it, and deservedly so. Murderball Review
Adrian 's Top Five
- Batman Begins: Because Nolan nailed the Dark Knight on every single level.
- The Constant Gardener: Because I haven't had such an overwhelming emotional response to a film in a very long time. Quality filmmaking across the board.
- Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith: Because that is what Star Wars is all about. The second best Star Wars film after Empire.
- The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou: I don't know why. It just worked for me.
- Sin City: Because a film made entirely on green screen has rarely been so alive!
Nik 's Top Ten

- A History of Violence: Aragorn can act!
- The Descent: So scary that If I even look at another cave again I'll wee myself.
